Born and raised in San José del Cabo, Mexico, Solana McGonagle began her dance training at the age of three at Danza Tellez. Under the tutelage of Lourdes Tellez, she started her journey in dance education, training in ballet, contemporary, jazz and Mexican folkloric dance. At a young age she became involved with her community through outreach programs and performances. In 2015 she became involved in “Danza Que Da Esperanza”, dance that gives hope, a nonprofit organization that helps provide artistic education to children and students with artistic talent who are living in vulnerable socioeconomic conditions in Los Cabos, Mexico. Through volunteer work with this organization she realized that her passion for sharing the joys of dance reached far beyond the proscenium stage. Having this experience ignited her love and passion for community outreach and inspired her to continue sharing her love for dance with others through teaching and volunteering. In furthering her dance education she attended various workshops and summer intensives in hopes of deepening her understanding of dance technique and education. Most recently she has studied with Alonzo King’s Lines Ballet, Gibney’s Summer Study and Sidra Bell’s Dance Module. Currently she is a junior at The Boston Conservatory at Berklee, pursuing her BFA under professors such as Kurt Douglas, Danny Pelzig, Olivier Besson, Daniel McCusker, among other esteemed faculty. During her time at the Conservatory, she has performed works by renowned guest choreographers including Danny Pelzig, Crystal Perkins and most recently Gustavo Sansano Ramirez. In the three years that Solana has been a student at the Conservatory she has choreographed many different works including “Celestial Beings/Heavenly Bodies” which was featured on the Conservatory’s mainstage during their “Winterworks” program which features works from aspiring student choreographers. Under the direction of Brian McGinnis, Daniel McCusker and Diane Arvanites, Solana has ignited her passion for choreographing and hopes to continue pursuing her passion for making dance.
